What kind of fabric do you sell?
Most of what we sell is commonly referred to as "quilters' cotton". It is 100% woven cotton, printed with ink. Some fabrics are lighter or heavier than others, in which case we do our best to describe the weight of the fabric in the product description. If it doesn't have a description, it is a light- weight cotton, such as you'd find in most fabric stores.
How wide is your fabric?
Most of the prints are 112cm wide. The width is listed in each individual product description.
Can I purchase fabric by the meter?
Yes, to order 1 meter of fabric you simply need to purchase 4 fat quarters. This is further explained in the table below.
How is fabric priced?
Our fabric is sold per Fat Quarter (FQ), which is 50cm x 56cm.

All even quantities of FQ’s will be left uncut. Uneven quantities will be cut as follows:
· 3 FQ’s will be sent as ½ meter + ¼ meter
· 5 FQ’s will be sent as 1 meter + ¼ meter

Can I order less than a FQ when purchasing fabric?
No, unfortunately the minimum order is 1 FQ.
When will my order ship?
We will usually ship your order on the day we receive payment, on the rare occasion we will ship 1-2 days after payment, depending on our current workload. If you have chosen to have your parcel delivered by courier, you will usually receive your order within 1-2 days after payment clears (rural may take a little longer). New Zealand Post orders may take a day or two longer. If you have ordered something by courier and have not received it within 5 days please contact us and we will track your order.
Do you sell wholesale?
No, we don't. We can offer you a discount on orders of 5meters or more. Email info@sewpretty.co.nz for more information.
Do you ship internationally?
Of course! We have lots of crafty customers abroad! See our shipping page for more information.
What if an item I want is not in stock?
All products that are not in stock on our website will include a notice saying ‘Product not available’. Just below is a field where you can enter your email address to be notified when this item is back in stock.
We endeavour to keep adequate stock in store at all times, but sometimes delays in the receipt of orders from our wholesalers are beyond our control.
I got an email/ message at checkout saying the product I ordered is not in stock. Why?
One of a few different things may have happened:
- Our ecommerce website does a very good job of accurately adjusting the inventory levels, so if you placed a product in your cart yesterday, but checked out today, someone else might have purchased the same item in the interim.
- When we get fabric, the manufacturers tell us how much is on a bolt. Sometimes it isn't what they say, but we don't know until we get to the end of the bolt.
- We made a mistake.
Whatever the reason, we know you had your heart set on the product you ordered, so we are truly sorry. We'll always let you know before we ship that your order is incomplete so you have an opportunity to tell us how to proceed.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We prefer payment by bank deposit but do also accept debit/credit card, PayPal and cheque payments. We currently use PayPal to process our electronic payments, please note that you do NOT have to set up an account with PayPal to make your payments. You will automatically be directed to PayPal at checkout.
By using PayPal, this means that we do not need to store your Eftpos/ credit card details, and that all card details are processed via the PayPal secure payment gateway making it a safer shopping experience for our customers.
Payments made via PayPal are free to our customers. SewPretty pays a fee to PayPal for each transaction processed via their website.
Can you help me choose matching fabrics for my project?
Yes, we are delighted to say we can! We understand that buying fabric online makes it difficult to find coordinating prints and colours. We are pleased to say that we are the only online store in New Zealand that offers our customers a Colour Picker and a Design Wall to assist you in choosing and matching fabrics for your project
If you are looking for a particular colour, the colour grid is an excellent way to narrow your search. Simply click on the colour of your choice to see all of the prints from our shop featuring that shade.
You will then be able to further modify your search by looking for prints that have a high or low dominance of that colour, as well as whether they are very close or only somewhat close to your chosen hue.
This tool is particularly great when trying to mix and match different designers and collections by allowing you to explore different pairing possibilities. You'll be amazed with the different combinations that turn up and we hope you'll find some inspiration for your next project! Go on, give it a go!
You will also notice when viewing a fabric product on our website, a matching chart of colours will be displayed below the image of the fabric you are viewing. By clicking on any of these colours, the website will automatically display all other fabrics available on our website in that selected colour.
You can then either send these products straight to your shopping cart, or to the Design Wall to see what they look like next to each other, (see more about the Design Wall below).

Design Wall
When you are shopping for fabric online, don’t you sometimes just wish you could hold a selection of fabric swatches up against each other? Well with SewPretty’s unique Design Wall, you can!
When viewing an individual fabric product on our website, you can send this item to the Design Wall. You can then continue browsing, and when you come across other pieces of fabric, and are wondering whether they are going to match - send these over to the Design Wall too!
The Design Wall is a floating window, which can be moved off to the side of your screen while you shop, and when you are ready, you can use this to match up all of the different fabrics by moving each square around.
Fabrics that don’t suite your project can be deleted from the Design Wall, while those that you would like to find in your post box over the next few days can be sent to your shopping cart in the required quantities.
To access the Design Wall, just click on the ‘+ Add to Design Wall’ link when you are viewing a piece of fabric.
